You depart from the designated location to Mariënburg, where you board a boat to the Frederiksdorp Resort. As you glide along the Commewijne River, keep your eyes on the water; this area is home to both river dolphins and ocean dolphins. Watch as they gracefully leap, swim alongside the boat, and play in the currents. With a bit of luck, you may see entire pods interacting, performing acrobatic jumps, or surfacing nearby for a breath, an unforgettable and magical wildlife encounter in their natural habitat. Step Back in the History of Frederiksdorp Resort​

Frederiksdorp is a former 18th-century coffee and cocoa plantation, originally owned by the Prussian German Johan Friedrich Knöffel, after whom the plantation is still named today. Its rich history reflects both European and African traditions, which become evident during a guided historical walk across the plantation grounds.

 

During the tour, you will visit several restored monumental buildings, including the old plantation house and the doctor’s residence dating back to the 1700s. Frederiksdorp forms the cultural center of the right bank of the Commewijne River and is surrounded by former plantations, fishing villages, mangrove forests, bird swamps, beaches, and extensive cycling and walking paths.

Declared a historic heritage site, Frederiksdorp has been transformed into a charming resort while preserving its original plantation houses and historic police post. The comfortably furnished accommodations are equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and hot water. The resort also features a swimming pool with a pool deck and a spacious river terrace offering beautiful views.
