Galibi & Marowijne River Adventure

Day 1 – From Paramaribo to Galibi: Culture, Nature & Sea Turtles

The adventure begins in the morning as we leave Paramaribo and travel by bus through the scenic Commewijne district toward Albina, situated on the Marowijne River at the border with French Guiana. Along the way, you’ll cross the impressive Wijdenbosch Bridge, offering stunning panoramic views of the capital. The route takes us through the historic bauxite town of Moengo, with a few stops to stretch and refresh.

As we travel eastward, the scenery gradually changes from lively city streets to the calm, green interior of Suriname. After approximately two hours, we arrive in Albina.

Here, we switch from road to river and board a boat to cross to Saint-Laurent du Maroni, a charming border town on the French side. A French bus awaits us for a scenic drive through quiet countryside toward Apatou.

Journey to Christiaankondre and Check-in

Upon arriving in Albina, we board a boat that carries us north to the village of Christiaankondre, where Myrysji Lodge awaits. Nestled along the river, the lodge provides a tranquil setting for your stay. After settling in and enjoying a hearty lunch, the afternoon is dedicated to a guided walk through the village. This immersive experience offers a chance to meet members of the Indigenous community and learn about their customs, traditions, and way of life.

Evening Adventure: Sea Turtle Nesting

As night falls, our guide prepares you for a magical evening adventure: a night boat trip to the Baboensanti beach, where, depending on the season, you may witness sea turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs, a truly unforgettable natural spectacle.

Day 2 – Sun, Beach Vibes & Culture

After breakfast, we head out to Tijgerbank, Suriname’s only sandbank. With its golden sand and crystal-clear waters, it feels like a private tropical paradise. Spend the morning soaking up the sun, swimming, or simply relaxing in this serene setting. Around midday, we return to Myrysji Lodge for a delicious lunch, followed by a leisurely afternoon at your own pace. For those seeking adventure, there are opportunities for kayaking along the river, fishing, taking a sunset cruise, or exploring the nearby jungle trails.

The evening is a celebration of local culture, featuring the Samboera, a traditional Indigenous dance performance. Guests are encouraged to join in, making it an interactive and joyful cultural experience before dinner at the lodge.

Day 3 – Souvenirs, St. Laurent & Return to Paramaribo

On the final day, after breakfast, there is time to explore the village further, visit the small local zoo, or pick up unique souvenirs from the village shop. We then check out and travel by boat back to Albina. On the way, we cross to the French side of the river and make a stop in St. Laurent. A short walk allows you to explore the town and visit the famous Bagno Prison Museum, known for the story of Papillon.

After returning to Albina for lunch, we board the bus for the journey back to Paramaribo, arriving in the late afternoon and bringing the adventure to a close.
