4-Day Luxury Eco-Adventure in the Surinamese Rainforest
Day 1 β Journey Into Adventure
Our adventure starts early at 7:00 AM with departure from Paramaribo by bus. We cross the Wijdenbosch Bridge, offering beautiful views over the Suriname River, and continue through Commewijne, where we make a short restroom stop.
As we travel eastward, the scenery gradually changes from lively city streets to the calm, green interior of Suriname. After approximately two hours, we arrive in Albina.
Here, we switch from road to river and board a boat to cross to Saint-Laurent du Maroni, a charming border town on the French side. A French bus awaits us for a scenic drive through quiet countryside toward Apatou.
The Final Stage: Into the Rainforest
In Apatou, we board a boat once more for the final stretch of the journey β a peaceful river cruise deep into the rainforest toward Camp Wadaa.
Arrival & Relaxation
After a full but fascinating travel day, we arrive at Camp Wadaa, where warm hospitality awaits. Take time to relax, enjoy a refreshing shower in your comfortable lodge with modern facilities and cozy beds, and end the day with a delicious dinner surrounded by rainforest serenity.
Day 2 β Expedition to Mina Falls
After breakfast, we set off by boat for the most adventurous day of the tour. Traveling upstream, we pass traditional river villages and stop at Atemisa, where we meet local residents and learn about their cultural traditions.
The adventure continues into Gran Kriki, where we navigate three small but exciting rapids. As the river narrows, we enter Samansoe Creek, sometimes pulling the boat through shallow sections.
From here, we continue on foot, hiking uphill through dense tropical forest toward the spectacular Mina Falls. Along the way, our guide explains medicinal plants, jungle folklore, and hidden rainforest secrets.
At the falls, youβre rewarded with a breathtaking sight: crystal-clear water cascading down rocky cliffs, surrounded by untouched jungle. Enjoy time to swim, relax, or simply take in the peaceful surroundings.
We return via the same route, arriving back at Camp Wadaa in time for dinner, prepared with traditional Maroon flavors.
As night falls, we gather for Mato Neti, a traditional storytelling session that brings rainforest legends and culture to life.
Day 3 β Discovering Apuma Falls
After a good nightβs rest, we enjoy breakfast before heading out to Apuma Falls, the largest rapid in the Pamaka region. Though technically a rapid, its size and power make it feel like a true waterfall.
We travel to a nearby island, where you can relax with a snack and drink while enjoying the sounds and scenery of the rainforest.
In the afternoon, after lunch, we visit the village of Loca Loca. A short village walk offers insight into daily life, local crafts, and traditional production methods.
By early evening, we return to Camp Wadaa. Dinner is followed by a festive cultural evening featuring traditional music and dance, celebrating our time together in the rainforest.
Day 4 β Farewell to the Forest
After breakfast, we pack our belongings and say goodbye to Camp Wadaa and its welcoming hosts.
We board the boat for one final, peaceful journey downriver, soaking in the sights and sounds of the rainforest. At Langa Tabiki, our bus is waiting to take us back to Paramaribo.
We return home with unforgettable memories of rainforest adventures, vibrant cultures, and the warm hospitality of the Pamaka people.
